They beat us out at VA Beach in Big League... I remember that chant as their big firstbaseman sent one out by the big blue water tower off me lol.

I remember beating Louisa in senior league when I was 16, they had a real classy bunch.

They were really good in the late-1990s. I think they went to the AA semifinals and lost to a loaded Virginia High team one of those years.

We beat VA High in 1996. The year they won the AA title. We beat them 1-0 on a 1 hitter thrown by Brett Maggard. It was the first game I ever got to play in, it was pretty darn exciting.

Southwest Virginia baseball was pretty dominant back in the day.

i think those days may come back around. with va. high dropping and the formation of the clinch mountain district baseball could return to swva. i think powell valley will get back on track. kelly and burton both have good talent. coeburn and castlewood are good programs out of the cumberland. honaker and haysi is always pretty good out of the black diamond.

All three area teams lost. South fell 9-7 to Powhatan (Va). Like in that game, South lead heading into the final inning of each of their last three losses. Va High lost to St. James (S.C.), 6-5 (Stout took the loss, giving up only 4 hits, took both losses which were error-filled). Don't think Roark pitched in any of the games in the tourney.

Hidden Valley (Va), state runner-ups in AA last year, beat Georgetown, 6-0.

J.J. Kelly completed its trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in a winning fashion Friday by holding off a furious rally to beat Calvary Baptist (N.C.) 7-6 on Friday.

The Indians scored five runs in the third inning to take a 7-2 lead before Calvary Baptist scored four in the seventh off Alex Maine (1-0). Nick Roop gave up a double before getting the last out.

Cody Bentley went 3-for-4 with a double, and Matt Dotson, Justin Wilson, Griffin Kopp and Will Strength each had two hits for J.J. Kelly (5-2).
